Soul-Sides posted a 128kbps of got to see you soon over a year ago. I ended up buying the LP. Decent album overall, but got to see you soon was definitely the standout track. Noticed just a few days ago that, despite having the vinyl, I was still playing this song 'out' @ 128kpbs. Just shameful really.

OK. I am going to give you all something meaty since I have not posted in quite a bit. In my nomadic travels through the music blogosphere I came upon dj b.cause and his edit of a Marvelettes song. The song mixes the Marvelettes song Too Many Fish In The Sea with the instrumental from the De La Soul Song Ooh Feat. Redman.

Besides being dope as hell I like the concept of sampling rap instrumental that are, themselves, full of samples. The De La Soul track ooh contains some guitar and vocals from the oft sampled Lee Dorsey.

By this I mean that the main purpose of the edit is to make the song more danceable. I believe I discovered Gypsy Woman over at soul-sides.com. In any case, dj O-Dub was definitely the one to introduce me to Bataan, who he has been pushing hard over at soul-sides.

OK. So, I've been really into disco lately. I'm getting curious looks from people who thought they knew me.
Before I began DJing I did not really know any dance music. I was an expert on great soul music you never heard of and weird spoken word records that only someone with wayyyy too much time on their hands would listen to. At some point, when I started to enjoy dancing (ahem, be quiet, I don't care if you enjoy me dancing) my musical tastes went in the same direction. I got fed up with Bukowski and Vonnegut (do not buy man without a country---save yourself the dissapointment). I got fed up with florida funk (okay, I actually really like do right man by Sam Baker, but many underground soul/funk artists never made it for good reason).
I have not thrown these old things away, I've just widened my horizons a bit.

In testament to the aforementioned is an instrumental disco/funk track I made tonight that will hopefully feature a vocalist in the near future.

Friday was slow, but decent. The weather was terrible. One friend who was supposed to show texted something to the tune of "the city is paralyzed in the grip of this storm." That's a little much. Really people, we don't even use cars in this city.

Okay, so as I was walking home from work on this rainy day I came across a stack of records lying in the rain. So, as usual, I checked them out. Endgame, I now have a Sly & The Family Stone Anthology (double LP), Eddie Kendrick's album goin' up in smoke (SEALED!), a Bobby Womack LP, an Isley Brothers LP, a Gladys Knight LP and a bunch of other stuff.

I've had my ear on Kendricks recently because Armed Snobbery posted the Kendricks track that was sampled in the Lil' Wayne song Let The Beat Build. Anyway, as I'm sure you've guessed the Kendricks track is ridiculous and the Wayne song mediocre, BUT WAIT! I'm not hatin', that Mrs Officer is definitely on my playlist right now---it's got a nice hook and the lyrics are so wrong they're right.
