manna from the street : smoke and no smoke

Okay, so as I was walking home from work on this rainy day I came across a stack of records lying in the rain. So, as usual, I checked them out. Endgame, I now have a Sly & The Family Stone Anthology (double LP), Eddie Kendrick's album goin' up in smoke (SEALED!), a Bobby Womack LP, an Isley Brothers LP, a Gladys Knight LP and a bunch of other stuff.

Below is a vinyl rip of goin' up in smoke

I've had my ear on Kendricks recently because Armed Snobbery posted the Kendricks track that was sampled in the Lil' Wayne song Let The Beat Build. Anyway, as I'm sure you've guessed the Kendricks track is ridiculous and the Wayne song mediocre, BUT WAIT! I'm not hatin', that Mrs Officer is definitely on my playlist right now---it's got a nice hook and the lyrics are so wrong they're right.

And here's some of the "other stuff"
Sarah Vaughan - No Smoke Blues

This is pretty racy (sorry for the 'mom'cabulary) for Sarah Vaughan and the first time I have heard her sing the blues.

And the "smoke" thing is purely coincidence.

On "smoke," the above is some smoke puff advertising I witnessed after the A train to Rockaway Beach broke down a few summers back.
